Comiso now used AVHRR for surface temperature retrieval ... (I know one paper already produced on global temp from this skin temperature from AVHRR ... it is actually by Dickinson, the president of AGU + his chinese student) ... his AVHRR number is strange in that no reviewer ever raise question to stop him ... he showed his AVHRR summer temperature has warming trend across arctic (except greenland) ... and cooling trend in winter ... then he punched by citing silly Drew Shindell et al paper that say AO-trend causing warming ... and that AO trend is caused by GHG (as you would guess it) but note that those AO story are for winter only ... there weak coupling for strato+tropo in other season ... There are at least 3 papers that showed how the shindell et al (99) may be just wrong ... since some model produce decreasing ao trend with increasing GHG ... it is a usual mess ... the angle here is that there is a big difference with the fit from 1981-2001 and 1978-2000 (this was my fit) i am confused as to what the AVHRR means ... of course, this comiso is producing numbers for only-clear-sky situations only ... so I do not know what the heck this radiative temperature means ... well, it is that kind of quality work ... now it is news all over the place again ... your friend Martin Kenzer is interested in arctic ? is he a good guy ? call me if you are still in office ... i will leave office by 10 pm ... all these messes are easier to talk by phone .. willie
